We all know the gist about electrical in our homes; it can start a fire by flipping a switch on a fireplace, and it can start fires if not wired properly in a renovation or a new build. We use electricity every day in almost everything we do!

Here it comes again! Weather experts are saying we’re in for another harsh winter, so we thought it would be a great time for a refresher of what we need to do before the freezing temperatures hit!

In our last blog post, we discussed floor joints and their current place in the home construction market. Today, we thought we’d continue the discussion and shift our focus this time to sheet goods.

For many years, homes have been built with dimensional lumber, meaning the lumber was milled from trees. This method has proven successful in the past, but as time goes on and trees are becoming scarcer, it has been realized that we cannot keep up with demand. As a result, the industry has come up with some alternatives to the floor joists themselves.

A flash flood is a heavy dumping of rain in a very short period of time – and in the GTA this summer, we’ve been hearing about them, and seeing them, more and more. With the high volumes of rain, the ground is saturated, and this means the groundwater has nowhere to go.

When we think of landscaping, we think of curb appeal – flowers, plants, walkways, driveways and patios. We might not think of Ontario Building Code.
